Our Mission
“To inspire action, raise awareness, and create sustainable, equitable food solutions that honour
Africa's agricultural heritage and pave the way for a healthier, more resilient future for all”
Our food system is broken
Food Think is a pan-African community committed to inspiring, motivating, and driving positive transformation in how we produce and consume food across the continent.
While African countries excel at ensuring people have enough to eat, we often fall short in nourishing our populations and empowering our food producers. What if we valued crop and livestock systems that are healthy for both people and the planet? What if we focused on food systems that provide delicious, nutrient-dense options, promote indigenous foods, protect workers, and safeguard the environment? Food systems that are regenerative, giving back more than they take and that make it profitable to be sustainable?
Food Think brings together farmers, producers, policymakers, government leaders, researchers, scientists, academics, journalists, and the funding and donor communities to collaborate on sustainable solutions for Africa’s most pressing environmental and social challenges. Through storytelling, we inspire learning and drive change.
We connect the dots between local and global food issues by demonstrating how hunger, malnutrition, rising obesity, the climate crisis, unemployment, and other critical challenges can be addressed through increased research and investment in sustainable agriculture and food systems.
We showcase innovative ideas that are already making a difference on the ground—in cities, kitchens, fields, and laboratories. These innovations need more attention, research, and funding to scale up and replicate their success. And that’s where you come in. We all need to work together to find solutions that nourish people and protect the planet.
